Rolando De La Torre, Jr. a.k.a., J.R. and Brian Sternburgh, directors of Zeehub, talk about their startup and how they are setting the franchise world on fire. After many attempts to get both Brian and J.R. together, we finally got together to talk about their startup. Zeehub was designed to simplify franchise management while maintaining intuituve technology designed for everyone. This powerful platform was designed to improve:

  • Communication
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Manage tasks and training
  • Share company documents

Rolando De La Torre JrBrian was a franchisor and J.R. worked for a corporation managing their information technology. J.R. thought their had to be a better way of administering a communication platform that was more cost effective and didn’t flood the support lines.

Communicate Openly and Increase Collaboration

Our internal messaging system creates an ongoing discussion with each franchise unit. Corporate and franchise owners can use messages for status updates, support requests, and much more.

Your Centralized Data Hub

Forget about reports on spreadsheets or word docs. ZeeHub simplifies data collection and reporting, and provides a clear overview of historical data. Accessible, digestible, data allows you to make better decisions and understand what’s going on in your franchise system.

Consistency and Accountability

You spent a lot of time developing system standards and best practices. ZeeHub helps you deliver them to all stores, and get new stores up and running quickly. ZeeHub delivers checklists and training sessions, and tracks when they are completed. This keeps important items from “falling through the cracks”, making rollouts and new franchisee onboarding a breeze.

Manage Company Files in the Cloud

ZeeHub makes it easy for franchisors to share files, and for franchisees to find them. Your files are backed up and stored safely at all times.

The primary focus of Zeehub is to provide a simple solution to franchisor’s that is user-friendly. This way, both the franchisor and franchisee spend less time on technical training and support and more time maximizing franchise performance. Zeehub provides a cloud-based solution that can be accessed from any point with an internet connection. The benefit is user’s don’t have to worry about setting up any kind of physical IT infrastructure. Since J.R. and Brian are both familiar with the franchise industry, they understand the intracacies involved in franchise systems. Rolling out new policies and procedures includes a systemic training protocol and Zeehub guides franchisess through this process ensuring they take all the required steps to acknowledge the required critical information.

Getting started is often overwhelming, but the team at Zeehub has taken a considerable amount of time in building this software so that the time it takes an owner to get started generating sales is greatly reduced. Owners can upload contracts into the platform and keep the franchise apprised of all the data along the way. Franchisors can easily customize Zeehub for their growth as needs change. Users can navigate through the software without having a complex degree of technical knowledge. The franchise sales management includes the ability to track your candidates, manage FDDs, and own your sales pipeline from within the platform. We provide a practical, lightweight, solution for managing the franchise sales process.

Simplified Franchise Management

We believe the right technology can create a more pleasant and successful franchising experience.
Our Goals:
– Make franchising more collaborative and transparent
– Help brands minimize operational waste
– Eliminate tech anxiety as a barrier to tech benefits
– Facilitate evidence/metric based decision making
The Rules

By sticking to a few simple rules, we created a platform that franchisees/franchisors can enjoy using.
– Get the basics right
– Make things easier for those who aren’t tech savvy
– Don’t make users repeat themselves
– Use names that make sense (no jargon)
– Never stop improving

Arin Gilbert was born in Joplin, Missouri. He studied music at Missouri State in Springfield, MO and has lived in Kansas City since 2009. Since he was a teenager., he had a passion for music and art. One would never guess it, but Arin was in punk and ska bands. In college, he started his own indie folk/rock band. He ran an all ages venue called the Belmonte in Springfield, MO from 2004-2009 that became a popular place for people to see shows as well as local artists.

Arin remembers coming to Kansas City to see shows at El Torreon and he is very happy to be part of this project to help reopen the space as a premiere all ages venue for Kansas City. Arin is currently volunteering his time to pursue his vision of reopening El Torreon for the Kansas City music scene.

El TorreanKansas City has always had a cultural impact that far exceeds its size. Jazz in the 20’s, fashion in the 30’s, and barbeque forever. For the next thirty days, you have the chance to be a part of that legacy and restore a piece of Kansas City’s history.

Established in 1927, El Torreon Ballroom (later known as the Cowtown Ballroom) was a Kansas City staple for nearly eighty years. It began as one of the nation’s first integrated jazz clubs, hosting the likes of Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and other luminaries of the time. Patrons of every race, color, and creed would enter the ballroom by ascending one of two grand staircases, dressed to the nines. On clear nights, the horn section could be heard as far as Union Station.

Music Venue for All AgesFor two decades in the middle of the century, the ballroom was converted into a roller-rink and became a beloved local hangout for families and teens. But music is in the building’s stones, and in the 60’s and 70’s the Cowtown Ballroom brought it back with a vengence. B.B. King, Danny Cox, Van Morrison, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Frank Zappa, and Alice Cooper all strutted, strummed, and crooned from the Cowtown Ballroom’s stage.

After the turn of the Millenium, El Torreon took back its original name. It became an all-ages rock venue, hosting Rory Gallagher, Bright Eyes, Fugazi, Further Seems Forever, Mewithoutyou and countless Hardcore, Metal, Punk, and Ska bands.

Celestial Decent Playing at El TerreonA thriving local music scene is part of what makes a city great. By supporting this campaign, you’re helping to bring great music to the heart of Kansas City at the only all-ages venue that can boast a direct line from the roaring 20’s through the classic rock era and the 80’s, to the independent rock scene of the early 2000’s and beyond. That line was broken, and we want it reconnected. We want to bring in touring bands from across the country and around the world, and support great local music by giving them a place to be heard.

The El Torreon venue space is currently empty. The stage still stands, but the rest has been stripped down to the bare essentials. There are no acoustic treatments on the walls — necessary for providing bands with the sound quality they deserve — no dedicated space for a sound board or refreshments.

We believe music should be experienced at the highest level of quality possible, and we want El Torreon to reflect that. We want to build a space were bands can sound their best and where fans can see their favorite acts up close and personal. But, in order to do that, we need your help.

Arin Gilbert – Director of El Torrean Music Venue

Talking with Arin was a lot of fun. Arin is a really cool, down to earth friend that loves his family and loves music. He was definitely up for the challenge when he decided to take on the task of bringing the El Torrean back to Kansas City. Arin spoke about the history of El Torrean and the great music scene that Kansas City has to offer, but they just don’t have many places to showcase their talents.

Being a musician himself, Arin is dedicated to creating a space for musicians of all genres to play their music in a family friendly atmosphere.

El Torrean – Arin Gilbert Wants Your Help

Arin and his friends got together and built a kickstarter campaign to try and raise the necessary funds to build out the El Torrean so it can be more condusive to live music. We are currently in the midst of relaunching El Torreon as a premiere All Ages Music Venue and Arts Space. We have some work to do, but we are very excited to open our doors to the community. Keep up to date on our events page.

The PetPal Automatic Wi-Fi Pet Feeder Has Officially Launched Their indiegogo Crowd Funding Campaign! Get Your PetPal Today!

Pet Pal Automatic WiFi Pet Feeder

Ken Powers, the creator of PetPal by PeTreaT, LLC is ready to bring his automatic Wi-Fi pet feeder to the market after three years of designing and redesigning this fantastic new product. Stop Riding the Pine was fortunate enough to catch up with Ken while he was in a hotel room during a recent trip. We spoke about the journey Ken has made from the inception of his concept to the development of the product. For anyone that is looking to invent, create, develop and market an idea or concept, this is a great show to listen to.

PetPal Automatic Wi-Fi Pet FeederMr. Powers is an electrical engineer by trade that came up with an incredible solution for pet lovers from all walks of life. Ken’s job required that he traveled a lot and because of this, he was forced to ask his neighbors to watch and feed his cats. For over a month, Ken couldn’t find a solution online that would alleviate him from constantly having to impose himself upon his neighbors and that’s when he came up with the idea. His thought about how nice it would be to create a device for his pets wherein he would be able to watch, listen to, talk to and feed his pets anytime, anywhere with any connected device. Since he couldn’t find any other device on the market that could do this, he decided to create it himself.

When you and your family are away, the PetPal automatic WiFi pet feeder provides a way of to stay in touch with your pet like never before. Have you ever left home and forgot to feed your pet? Have you ever thought about what your dog or cat is doing? While nothing really can replace the time you share with your pet, the PetPal automatic WiFi pet feeder will add some joy to you and your pets lives when you have to work, go out of town or get stuck in traffic.

“The PetPal automatic Wi-Fi pet feeder is an upscale device that will last a lifetime”
-Ken Powers, Owner and Creator, PetPal by PeTreaT, LLC

What is the PetPal?

The PetPal automatic Wi-Fi pet feeder enables pet owners to log into their connected device through an Android or Apple application to watch, feed, listen and talk to your pet from anywhere you have an internet connection. Unlike most other pet feeding devices, they use an auger that tends to get jammed because they try to push the food up. The patent pending technology in the PetPal lifts the food up and over the internal food reservoir that drops the food down into the feeding bowl.

During his three year design phase, he noticed that he had five new friends. These friends came to his home in the form of raccoons. They were very interested in the PetPal and they were very hungry. Ken says that raccoons are one of the smartest animals when it comes to creative ways of getting food. The raccoons found a way to get in through the top of the PetPal because they weren’t able to get into the food from the bottom because of the patent pending solution that pushes the food up from the inside. Once Ken found out that the raccoons were able to remove the top of the feeder, he came up with a solution to secure the top with a couple wingnuts and the raccoons weren’t able to steal the food anymore.

One of the other challenges Ken ran into was ants. In southern California, ants are ferocious and they love pet food. He had to come up with a solution that would not only prevent the red ants from getting into the food bowl, but he found that the brown ants loved to climb up the feeder and get into the food reservoir. After some careful thought and consideration, he was able to devise a design that would keep the bowl off the ground and he engineered bridges that kept the ants from getting inside the feeder. He found that if you applied some petroleum jelly around the base of the automatic pet feeder and on the bridges inside the top of the feeder that the ants wouldn’t be able to get to the food.

The PetPal weighs about 30 lbs. with all heavy-duty stainless steel construction. It stands about 26″ tall and this will not only allow enough room to hold about 50 cups of pet food, but it won’t be easily knocked over with your bigger pets (and other pesky critters… yes, those rascally raccoons). It’s very easy to take apart, clean and putting it back together can be done in under five minutes.

The features and capabilities continue with a camera to take pictures and video of your pet. Pet owners are able to feed their pets up to five times per day. Feeding times can be scheduled or manually completed through the PetPal “Feed Me” app. The pet feeder comes with motion detection so each time your pet moves in front of the camera the camera will automatically activate and record the movement. It comes equipped with an SD memory card that will record everything and will automatically roll over once the all the data on the card is used. Night vision, a speaker and microphone also provide the ability to watch your pet at night, talk to your pet and listen to your pet so you can experience the love of your pet even while you aren’t home.

When the food levels get low, the pet owner is alerted with an email and an indicator light becomes active. Pet owners can set up a user login that has limited abilites that gives an opportunity for friends and family to get in on the fun. Easily connect to Wi-Fi and start feeding your pets remotely with the PetPal.

The PetPal is just about ready for production, but Ken needs your help. He is about to launch a crowdsourcing campaign on indiegogo. Check out the links below to learn how you can get involved and get your very own PetPal.
